William’s Trike Modification
William loves to ride his trike but had trouble getting up some hills around his house. Mom wanted us to add a handle to the back of the trike so she could help push him every now and then. Senior Volunteer Charlie Klein fabricated a perfectly matching handle to do the job.
William currently has a Winther red tricycle. He is unable to pedal on uneven ground or on any incline. We have to help him by pushing the trike to help him pedal. This is difficult on our backs for any length of time.
We currently push on the back of the seat to help him or pull by using the handle bars in the front.
It sits low to the ground which means we have to stay bent over for long periods of time which is hard on our backs.
William is developmentally delayed in all areas (fine motor, gross motor, speech). William’s strength is limited and needs assistance with most fine and gross motor skills.
William LOVES to ride his bike, but needs adult assistance in pushing. He wants to be outside with other children playing and riding his bike. He enjoys learning new skills and we would love to be able to help him learn this new skill.
